I am going to let you into a little secret: writing is fucking hard to do. Seriously. If you have ever tried to sit down and just write, you might already know just how daunting it is to look at a blank sheet of paper and have to come up with words or, even worse, full sentences and paragraphs! The whole idea is exhausting and leads me to just want to do nothing instead.

But you know what? Fuck that. Something being hard is not a reason not to do it. In fact, I would say it is a reason to do it even more! It is a big challenge to just go against your impulses and then go through the hard way until you achieve something. And I would even dare to say it is worth it, just how crazy is that?

Now here is a big secret: the more you do something, the easier it seems. Some people like to boast about being able to throw up a bunch of words into a paper and say it is easy, but it is not; they just have a lot of experience doing it. And, like with everything you do, the more you do it; the easier it seems.

But notice how I say seems and not is, and that is because I don’t want to take away credit from the act of writing. I know writing is hard, I feel proud of how hard it is and of how good I have become at it; but I don’t believe it really has gotten any easier. I just became better at it, and now it comes to me as some kind of muscle memory with which I can type words in a logical way and get away with it, as long as I have a meaningful idea in my head.

Keynote of the last sentence: the idea and your attachment to it is the biggest booster to your writing ability. Keep that in mind

So, yeah, I am better at writing stuff because I do it a lot. Does that mean I never run out of ideas to write about? No. Does that mean I never get stuck in the middle of a sentence? No. Does THAT mean I don’t feel dread every time I open a new blank document and stare at it for a good minute before even trying to type the first word? FUCK NO. It is horrible, it is difficult and it is 105% worth doing every time. And not once at the end of writing something, have I felt it wasn’t.

So there you go. It has been revealed. No one thinks it is easy to write books, articles, or even blog posts. So focus on what you want to achieve with it, know that the feeling of getting to the end is worth it, and just start. When it feels wrong, just go on. When you get stuck, jump to the next idea. Don’t let the flow of words coming out of you stop and you will become better at getting to the end. Again, it won’t become easier, but you will become stronger.

Now, go write something. I’m sure you will love it.
